My lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student's individual learning needs. I believe that every student is capable of succeeding in maths and English with the right guidance, encouragement, and approach.
I typically begin by identifying a student's strengths, areas for improvement, and academic goals. From there, I develop structured lessons that combine clear explanations, guided practice, and opportunities for independent problem-solving. Rather than focusing solely on memorisation, I emphasise developing a genuine understanding of the material so that students can confidently apply what they've learned.
For maths, my lessons focus on breaking down challenging concepts into manageable steps, strengthening foundational skills, and developing effective problem-solving strategies. For English, I emphasise reading comprehension, written communication, critical thinking, and the ability to express ideas clearly and confidently.
As a PhD researcher at the University of York with a background in psychology, statistics, and research methods, I bring an understanding of how people learn and process information to my teaching. My approach is patient, adaptable, and encouraging, with an emphasis on creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
Above all, my goal is to help students become more confident, independent learners who develop skills that extend beyond the classroom. This is accomplished by not only relying on previously successful tutoring techniques, but adopting a flexible and adaptive approach to teaching that meets each individuals needs. I strongly encourage my students to vocalize their own goals, as well as feedback regarding whether a specific method is working for them or not.
