As a qualified and experienced teacher, I provide excellent in-person or online tutoring, including 11+ entrance exams, Maths (up to GCSE), English (up to KS3), Science (Biology up to GCSE, Chemistry & Physics up to KS3), Psychology (up to A-level) and all primary subjects. I love teaching and tutoring, have an in-depth understanding of learning and build positive working relationships with tutees, so that they are fully engaged in their learning and enjoy the tutoring experience. I enjoy working with children who are neurodivergent or have Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Experience:

*Qualified and experienced primary school teacher, including working in education in London for 6+ years.
*Tutored children from 5 to 16 years old, taught all primary year groups and worked in secondary schools.
*Previous 11+ students have achieved scholarship entrance to prestigious schools, such as Brighton College.
*Worked as an Assistant Psychologist and therapist in the NHS, including work with people with Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, depression and anxiety. I enjoy working with children who are neurodivergent or have Special Educational Needs (SEN).

About me:

Thanks to my wide-ranging experience working in education, I am very familiar with the National Curriculum and well trained in engaging and effective methods of teaching. Tutoring will be personalised to your child’s strengths and the gaps in their learning. We can build the learning from fundamental concepts using creative teaching methods or go straight to complex curriculum content. Students I have taught and tutored have made noticeable improvements at school and achieved excellent results in GCSEs, 11+ exams and secondary school assessments. 11+ students I have tutored have gained scholarship entrance to prestigious schools, such as Brighton College.

With a background in both Education and Psychology, I can provide a comprehensive tutoring service that boosts children’s confidence as well as their academic attainment. I enjoy working with children with Special Educational Needs, whether diagnosed or suspected, and have extensive experience working with people with Autism Spectrum Condition and ADHD. Children I have tutored have overcome their barriers to learning and achieved brilliantly in school, while also developing greater confidence and insight into their own thinking styles.

Approach:

At the start of our initial tutoring session, we will discuss the tutee's learning, preferred tutoring subject(s) and aims for tutoring in conversation with parents (if applicable). Then, for older students who are focussed on exams, we will look at assessment, study resources and subject checklists, so they feel like they have a solid plan for exam success.

In the first session with younger children, we will usually start with a fun and gentle activity such as learning games, as it is important that children enjoy tutoring and form a productive working relationship with their tutor. In the following session, I will usually assess the tutee’s learning in their chosen subject(s), using a combination of written and informal assessment techniques. I am a friendly and enthusiastic teacher, who children really engage with - my previous tutees have all reported that they enjoyed tutoring.

In the following weeks, I teach the topics where there were gaps shown during assessment, using a combination of games, quick “starter” activities, taught content, learning resources and joint working with the tutee. Over time, the learning becomes increasingly tailored to the child and you can expect to see improvements in their academic achievement, school reports, self-esteem and positive attitude to learning.

At any time, parents can ask to discuss their child’s learning and the tutoring with me. While sessions are usually children only, parents are welcome in tutoring sessions if they would like some guidance in how to help their child learn at home.
