My Teaching Style & Lesson Structure:
I believe that "Maths anxiety" is often just a gap in core foundations. My goal is to bridge those gaps while keeping lessons engaging and high-energy. Having assisted in Set 7 GCSE classes, I am highly experienced in adapting my language to ensure students don't feel overwhelmed.
A typical 60-minute lesson follows this proven 4-step format:
The 'Warm-Up' (5-10 mins): We start with 2 or 3 quick-fire questions on topics we covered in the previous week. This builds long-term memory and gives the student an immediate "win" to start the session.
Concept Breakdown (15-20 mins): I introduce the new topic using visual aids and simplified logic. I don't just teach the formula; I explain why it works. This is where I use my experience in simplifying A-Level concepts for GCSE learners.
The 'I Do, We Do, You Do' Phase (20 mins):
I do: I demonstrate a complex exam-style question.
We do: We solve a similar problem together, talking through each step.
You do: The student tackles a problem independently while I provide "live" feedback.
Exam Strategy & Wrap-up (10 mins): We look at how this specific topic is phrased in past papers (Edexcel, AQA, or OCR). We finish by updating our "Traffic Light" checklist so the student can see their progress in real-time.
I am available via email/message during the week if a student gets stuck on a specific school homework question.
I am happy to provide homework between sessions if the parent wants it or it is needed.
