Honestly, I don't have a specific format for my lessons - I adjust to suit you. Having experience working and teaching Maths to students from primary school to 18 years old, I have learned that the most important thing for me is to not have a specific way to tutor, but instead be adaptable. I understand pupils have different backgrounds, are capable of different things, and have had different experiences, so it is unfair for me to stick to one way of teaching when I know it may be slower for them.

Recently, I have gauged that a lot of students find it difficult to grasp and make sense of what Mathematics is in the real world. I am fortunate enough to say that this has not been a problem for me, I have never seen it as something foreign, and therefore it is in my best interest to turn the Maths into something tangible and meaningful to them to allow us to progress faster. Whether that be with a simple game to make the atmosphere more fun, or focussing on drawing diagrams to visually explain what is happening, I am always prepared to adjust my way of teaching in order to best suit the student.

However, what I will always do is ultimately focus on exam technique. We will be spending time doing past paper questions, and this I will always say is most important, because this is how the student will truly get used to what they will ask for in the exam. Otherwise, I'm open to whatever the student feels is best for them.
