Rabia Malik

I'm Rabia, a university lecturer and English tutor based in New Malden. I teach Foundation Year Social Sciences at Arden University and I've spent the last few years working with international students at Kingston, Liverpool, and Keele university colleges. At these unversity colleges, most of my classroom teaching has been with adult international students preparing for university and requiring a higher IELTS score. My tutoring focuses on IELTS preparation and English for academic and professional purposes.

My qualifications include an MPhil in English Literature, an MA in Education, A PG Cert of Academic Practice (PGCAP), and a CertTESOL. I am also a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) which is another terstament to my teaching qualifications and skills.

I work one-to-one with every student, which lets me shape lessons around what you actually need rather than around a fixed curriculum. Our first session is diagnostic because I want to see how you read, write, listen and speak under time pressure, and I want to hear what you're finding hardest. That first session gives us a working plan, which we revisit every few weeks so it stays honest to your progress. IELTS students tend to work through a spiral syllabus, which means the four skills come back repeatedly at rising levels of difficulty rather than being taught once and dropped. This matters because the exam rewards consistent competence across all four skills rather than a spike in one.

Each session lasts one or two hours and can run online or in person, whichever suits you. My preference is for lessons that mix explanation with active practice, because passive review rarely shifts a band score on its own. You'll always leave with homework that follows on directly from what we covered, and serious exam candidates should expect around five to seven hours of independent work between sessions. All writing tasks come back with detailed comments, and I send audio feedback on speaking practice so you can hear specific pronunciation and fluency notes rather than reading them cold.
