I strongly believe that a success of a tutoring session lies not in how study has been covered but how much of that the child has grasped, and is likely to be able to apply it in real life. I like to start with the basics, and build up to understanding complex ideas, keep the content as relevant as possible. If it's a school going child, I prefer to work from the material supplied by the school as it helps the child's confidence and stops them from receiving contrasting messages from different study sources.
I am comfortable in my own home settings as much as in the child's own homes or online. I have been teaching at several points in my career - to adults, to children and to young people. This experience definitely goes a long in way in making connections and obtaining a perspective from the learners. That said, I am particularly keen on any one format of learning - we can use pen and paper, or just the screen, from print outs or from work books. The particular mode of study is decided by the child's feelings that day, as well as the topic at hand.
I will like the parents to be as much a part of the learning process as they would like. It's definitely a joint effort to get the kids across through the academic years. With this in mind, I am happy to receive feedback from the parents as the classes progress through terms.
