My lessons are catered to individual needs and preferences. An example of my lessons could involve covering material through an online presentation which includes worked examples and questions for the students to try. I also use interactive online whiteboards to show the working out for a certain question/ technical explanations or to collaborate with a student as they try some question. The structure of lessons can be altered depending on what a student wants to focus on and what the feel comfortable with. For example, for a students at GCSE or above level lessons may be tailored more to focus on exam questions and techniques.

Through my experience tutoring GCSE maths to year 11 students and volunteering at a local primary school by taking extra maths lessons for year 6 students, I have gained the ability to explain hard maths concepts in a concise and understandable manner. I have experience recognizing when students are struggling and when a change of approach is needed. Moreover, I understand the importance of supporting the students and helping them build confidence in their own mathematical abilities.

During my final year at university, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant; where
I planned and carried out weekly lessons for small groups of first year university students, covering core modules. I had to support students through more difficult concepts using alternative explanations, extra examples and questions for them to try. I also like to help them consolidate new concepts in enjoyable ways; for example, I would incorporate maths questions into quiz show style games, which my students particularly enjoyed. This job also provided me with experience in marking students’ assignments and swiftly providing feedback, while using it to tailor the lessons to the groups’ needs.
