I don't always use a set format for my lessons as I believe that each student is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses, and I prefer to play to their strengths to help them succeed. I tend to start by gauging where they are at by asking a few questions, and then I ask where they would like to be by their exams. This helps me to work out how best to assist each student. Methods I have used in the past with peers include: reteaching content to ensure understanding of a topic, mind mapping, blurting, practice questions, mock papers, etc. I also like to ask students to explain the topic to me as though they are the teacher, as this builds confidence in their knowledge and means they are more likely to remember the content. If exam technique is the issue, then I have many resources that I used as a student, e.g. essay plans, which I can use to develop these techniques in preparation for the exam. In terms of experience, I don't have any formal experience with tutoring, although I have tutored my peers in the past and have found that their grades increased after my help. I have also had experience tutoring my younger brother in his GCSE subjects, and although he is yet to sit his exams, his confidence with the knowledge has greatly increased. In terms of platform for my lessons, I am fairly flexible with regards to which software we use and am open to using platforms that suit the student best, although I have the most experience with Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
