I love to tailor my lessons to the student's goals, be that as a complete beginner or an advanced learner. My teaching can include reading notation, completing music grades or even improvising together and learning tunes by ear. I trained in classical music but spend a large amount of time performing in folk music groups and improvising myself. I do, however, also love to get back to the nitty gritty sheet music sometimes and can teach purely from note reading if that is what you prefer.

I pride myself on being able to explain concepts in a clear, concise manner. Often, i like to break things down into easy exercises, which can then be practiced at home to improve the student's playing overall. When it comes to classical violin, I like to focus on playing techniques and getting the best sound out of the instrument as possible. After that, we can move on to repertoire and more technical material. I belive that playing technique is also very valuable for folk and jazz violinists too, and would alsi encourage those who want to learn by ear, or to improvise, to start with a great foundation in playing technique. This includes things such a holding the bow correctly, holding the violin under the chin and placing fingers on the finger board. The beauty of violin is that there is always more to learn, for both teachers and students alike! I encourage regular practice - the more you give to your violin, the more you will get back.

I am also available to teach piano and music theory up to grade 5 level.
