About me

Experience

I have more than 40 years' experience teaching Physics to students aged 11–18. My aim is to identify gaps in understanding, develop confidence and help students become more independent learners. Whether your goal is to improve grades, prepare for examinations or make the transition from GCSE to A-level Physics, I can provide structured and personalised support. I also have experience preparing students for GCSE Astronomy.

***Qualifications and Professional Memberships***
BSc (Hons) Physics (University of Manchester), PGCE Science (Chelsea College, University of London) and MSc Science Education (Manchester Metropolitan University).
I am a Chartered Physicist (CPhys), a Member of the Institute of Physics (MInstP) and a member of The Tutors' Association.

***Where and How I Teach***
I am based in Wickford, Essex. Tuition is available online throughout the UK and face-to-face locally in Wickford, Billericay, Rayleigh, Basildon and South Woodham Ferrers.

***Cost***
My fee is £42 per hour.

***Safeguarding***
I hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate which is renewed annually. For face-to-face tuition, a parent or responsible adult should be present in the home.

He is very approachable, which helped me ask about areas I was uncertain of. He was also very patient with concepts I found particularly tricky, helping using visual aids and approaches tried and tested over many years. This teaching style worked particularly well in small groups, from which I greatly benefitted over the course of my A-levels.

Philip was my GCSE and A-level physics teacher. He always did his best to make sure everybody understood the content, often providing alternative explanations and mathematical derivations to help you understand the content. I was always encouraged to practise on a regular basis, keeping track of revision and topics that I needed to practise more. He was very helpful in helping me to gain a better understanding of the topics that I struggled to get my head around. Fast forward 3 years, I am a year away from graduating my degree in astrophysics and I have Philip to thank for helping me get here.
