I'm 69 years old and struggled with maths at grammar / comprehensive school as I "didn't much see the point of it"! I left school at 16 and got an apprenticeship as a mechanical / production engineer and during my days at technical college I DID see the point of it. And got my O Level / [GCSE] and ONC with fying colours. I moved from engineering into sales and marketing and had to set / achieve sales targets and budgets etc. which was also maths based. Maths came in very handy then too. Maths is also handy when it comes to comparing shopping prices, mortgages, loans etc. to see where the best deals are and not get "fleeced" by someone. I helped my children with their maths for their GCSE's of which all 4 passed with good grades. I'm helping my grandchildren with their maths now which is very satisfying and they're doing well. I'm new to helping to teach outside of family and the method of teaching I'd like to use will be based on what you understand and how you want and can learn and at what pace. My main aim is to help students "see the point of it" and understand why it's so important to understand the basics for when we're a bit older. Hope to help you soon. Phil.
