I am the lead maths teacher at an Ofsted accredited online school. For the last 4 years, I have specialised in online teaching and firmly believe that high quality remote teaching rivals even the best in person education. Online tutoring is no exception to this as it enables students to received personalised support from the comfort of their own home.

During my career, I have been fortunate to work with pupils with extremely diverse needs and goals, from year 7s struggling to adjust to secondary education to year 13s aiming for top universities. While the content of the maths may be different, my first goal is always the same, to create an environment where my pupils feel confident and ready for a challenge. My teaching centres on developing deeper understanding, rather than excessive memorisation. Maths is far more enjoyable when you feel like you are solving puzzles and making connections rather than learning a rigid procedure. If you feel overwhelmed by the quantity of maths you need to learn for your course, you are certainly not alone. This is often because classroom teachers need to move through material very quickly and do not always have the time to make connections between different ideas in maths.

While maths can be a challenging subject for many students, I believe anyone can build confidence in it, if offered the right support. And who knows, it may even start to be fun!
