My day job is reporting for young people aged 15-24, so I know how to break big topics down. I have also been a lecturer at a college specialising in data journalism.

As a result, I want to break down big ideas so it's not just learning to use them in exams, but understanding what's going on. I hope to make an environment where people feel confident asking questions, exploring new ideas and developing solid problem-solving skills.

I will first ask what you want to learn from the lesson and which bits are sticking points in the topic you choose.

We usually begin with a short warm-up activity to get you thinking mathematically. This might involve a quick recap of previous topics, a mental-maths challenge, or a brief discussion of any questions that came up between lessons. This helps build continuity and ensures you feel ready to move forward.

The main part of the lesson focuses on new content or specific skills you want to strengthen. I break concepts down into simple, understandable steps, using clear explanations, worked examples, and visual methods when helpful. Whether we’re exploring algebra, geometry, statistics, or exam techniques, I make sure each topic connects to the bigger picture so you can see the purpose behind what you’re learning. After each explanation, we work through practice problems together, gradually increasing difficulty as your confidence grows.

My lessons are dynamic and interactive. Instead of simply giving answers, I encourage you to think aloud, explain your reasoning, and try different approaches. This builds deeper understanding and stronger long-term skills. I provide regular feedback, highlight common mistakes to avoid, and share strategies that make tricky questions feel more manageable.

I look forward to supporting you on your maths journey.
