I have taught students from a variety of backgrounds, in a variety of locations and on a variety of subjects. The subjects include a variety of areas of philosophy and sociology. I have used a diversity of approaches, depending on context. I try to interpret student background, psychology and needs, and respond appropriately. Student learning is central and tends to result from a combination of listening to me and doing a range of tasks, e.g., research, quizzes, talking, asking questions, worked examples, personal biography, group work, interviews with each other, ‘flipped classroom’, ‘encyclopaedia entries’, alphabet exercises and presentations. I am willing to adapt if one approach seems not to get the best results, and I pay close attention to student feedback.
I have publications in some of the areas I have taught.
