I endeavour to ensure that my lessons are well thought out, stimulating and engaging, building on pupils knowledge through a sequential approach to learning. I therefore feel it is important to revisit, recall and challenge learning through a wide range of practical and accessible activities.
I am a firm believer that 'how we learn' is just as important as 'what we learn' and therefore look to build on key life skills such as resilience, teamwork, challenge and responsibility. Developing a positive 'growth mindset' is key to becoming a confident life-long learner and being successful in education and beyond.
As a tutor I do, however, recognise that building confidence, overcoming barriers to learning and ultimately being successful in key areas or subjects is vital to going on to confidently access the next step of pupils education, whether that is a seven year old knowing their number facts, an eight year old learning and using their multiplication tables or an eleven year old understanding how to solve problems and explain their mathematical reasoning and calculation skills.
Developing positive and friendly relationships, based on mutual respect; watching pupils grow in confidence and ultimately experience success is the absolute privilege of being an educator and the best part of the job.
