I am a university student currently studying Classics (Latin and Greek) at the University of Edinburgh, as well as taking a module in Economics which involves university level mathematics. I have achieved a first in all my modules so far. I went to Eton College for secondary school where I studied Maths, Spanish, Latin and Greek, obtaining 9s in all of these at GCSE and A* in all at A level. I have tutored my sisters in GCSE maths and would like to teach a wider range of students now.
All of my lessons will be online and would require technology which supports Microsoft Zoom for video calls, and I would use the screen share feature to go through questions and examples with my students.
In terms of my teaching methods, they change depending on the subject. For maths, I would spend a smaller part of the lesson on theory, so my students would never have to process too much information, and then do lots of questions, to cement conceptual understanding effectively. When it comes to languages, I would be able to help with grammatical understanding and knowledge, but it is important to understand that vocabulary learning must be essentially entirely independent; I can’t help much there. However, as someone who has finished school only recently, I am in a very good position to give sound advice on revision techniques and strategies.
In terms of my character, I would say that I am encouraging, kind, and patient and would be delighted to teach students of all abilities.
