I tutor GCSE maths (AQA, Edexcel and OCR), and I bring a first-class degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of York along with training to become a chartered accountant. I don't just remember GCSE maths, I use it — and a fair bit beyond it — every day in a professional setting. So when a topic like percentages, ratios, algebra or interpreting data feels abstract in class, I can show a student where it actually leads and why it's worth understanding, which is often the thing that makes it click.
My approach is patient and led by the individual. I've supported family members through their GCSEs, including students with additional learning needs, where explanations have to be adapted to how someone actually learns rather than how a textbook assumes they do. I've also tutored maths-based exams at university level, specifically a nurse's medical exam, so I'm just as comfortable stretching a confident student aiming for a grade 8 or 9.
Sessions are built around where you actually are. We find the gaps first, work through them with clear worked examples, then lock everything in with past papers and proper exam technique. I can teach HOW to actually pick up marks rather than simply knowing the maths. I teach primarily online using a shared whiteboard, which keeps things flexible and easy to fit around school, and in-person tuition is also available.
Above all, I want to build real confidence alongside better grades. It's okay to feel confused on particular topics, and you may not feel comfortable raising your hand and asking questions in class because it may seem embarrasing or you feel like you are holding the class back - which is where I am happy to help!
If you'd like to talk through what you or your child are aiming for, I'd be glad to hear from you.
