When working with me as your tutor, you not only have access to the content and knowledge I can offer, but as a graduate in Psychology, Learning and Education, I am able to provide you with skills that are universally applicable across subjects, life experiences and will even assist you in the workplace. This gives my students the foundations to not only exceed in the subjects I teach, but across the board, positioning them above their competition for years to come. I have significant knowledge in SEN conditions and have experience specialising in tutoring students with Autism, ADHD/ADD, Dyslexia and Irlen's Syndrome. My sessions are engaging and fun as I am a personable tutor, which I believe is a lifeline when a student is gaining new skills. Most importantly, I have true confidence in my teaching ability; not only have I studied and researched the methods I utilise at the University of Cambridge, I have also used them to achieve my pristine academic success, despite many hurdles I have faced. It is my pleasure to be able to pass along my skills and techniques, to allow my students to reach successes beyond the scope of their imagination.
I began teaching from a young age (16), holding both group and individual sessions on dyslexia management and techniques for students aged 11-15. I was scouted by my teachers and asked to join tuition websites to teach other students how to overcome hurdles associated with dyslexia, ADHD and Irlen’s syndrome in their years of secondary school; this demonstrates my natural affinity for teaching and has equipped me with experiences that are scare amongst the majority of tutors, providing me with skills which place me above my competitors. After leaving school, I became a public speaker, to vocalise my teaching methods and provide motivation for students. I would also attend schools to assist individual students in lessons where needed, providing them with skills applicable across disciplines to improve behaviour, self-esteem and ultimately academic results.
I was employed as a private tutor and nanny for a young girl (aged 10) with autism and dyslexia, supporting her and her family through the diagnostic period whilst also tutoring her in maths, english, verbal and non-verbal, reading and writing, comprehension and science; I adapted each individual lesson to her learning style and yielded incredibly successful results which were championed by both her parents and teachers.
I worked in Cambodia teaching English to students who were unable to afford an education elsewhere. This was a personal challenge which required me to examine my teaching techniques, and adapt to language barriers and differences in ability within a mixed group of students. I overcame these hurdles which enriched my teaching experience further, and provided me with skills applicable across contexts that enable me to adapt to each individual student, optimising their success. It was this work that underpinned my decision to study Psychology and Education at university.
I have provided private tutoring services for students applying to university and for A level students in Drama and Theatre Studies, English and Psychology, with a 100% success rate of pass/admission into their top choice university. To provide students with experiences to enrich their academic pursuits, I am currently the STEM ambassador for my department at Arcadis Consulting Ltd. This involves providing opportunities for students to experience the workplace, learn from engineers and gain experience from the industry.
