Typically, a lesson begins by my asking what has been going on in school and seeing they need any support in their current lessons. Then, following that we might follow on from something we were doing the previous week, or address some structural issue that has become apparent in that or preceding hours.

Normally, the teaching is problem-based, where we work through the questions and explore by doing, although some hours can be spent in more conventional teaching if it seems appropriate. For younger primary school students, some time will also be spent on general knowledge and breaking up content into smaller chunks that the attention span can handle.

Depending on the situation, we might conclude with a plan for what homework will be provided, and what will be coming up in the next hour.

I have been tutoring for ten years at this point, with more than three thousand hours of tutoring experience. There aren't many problems that I haven't come across already! I began in face-to-face tutoring but shifted online during the last pandemic.

I do have a DBS certificate, which is updated by the DBS update service.

Teaching is conducted over Wire and an online whiteboard, which is free for you to use, and does not require registration. A good internet connection and decent equipment is essential. Payment is by bank transfer, details of which will be supplied after the first hour. Cancellations are free up until the day before, although good reasons and reschedulings are often acceptable instead of paying the cancellation session fee on the day.
