I, Oliver, am a fun and focused student currently studying Biology at the university of Bath. I was tutored brilliantly for English literature at GCSE level and would like to create the same experience I had then, learning the personalities of my students along the way. I enjoyed helping classmates at A-level and GCSE level so this seemed like a logical next step.
My methods are flexible to the needs of the student, but my preference is to first ask students to see what they have learned previously, then test them on that to see gaps in knowledge. Then, for an average lesson, I begin by testing past knowledge to reinforce it, then moving on to learning new content and finally ending with a fun testing exercise at the end.
I like to use tools such as the Anki flashcard app to use spaced repetition memory techniques to better learn content, and mindmaps to create connections visually for information. I will also be sending past paper test questions as revising exercises. I would like to teach Biology, Maths and Physics at gcse level, which I got a grade 8, 8, and a 9 in respectively. Furthermore, I also studied these subjects at A level, including further maths. Due to this if a student is interested in pursuing any of these subjects further I can give them info and if they are so inclined teach them a small bite to see what they like. I create a safe, comfortable learning environment where the student is not judged for their mistakes but shown to learn from them, is free and encouraged to try harder things to grow and can speak openly.
