I have over five years of experience tutoring students in academic skills and various aspects of the English language. During those years, I helped numerous students progress academically through one-to-one, personalised support sessions. The sessions are tailored to their needs and focus on developing their competence in key areas such as grammar, essay structure, coherence, style, formulating arguments and planning. An important aspect of this process has been to familiarise the students with the academic conventions they are expected to adhere to and to facilitate their critical thinking and independent study skills. My academic support practice has been particularly enriched by working extensively and chiefly with international students in advanced studies (i.e doctoral studies). I typically support this group of students by providing coaching throughout their academic writing projects, including research proposal, assessment, report and thesis writing.

My qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), both of which have equipped me to work with students to whom English is not a first language and further developed my understanding of the challenges that they are likely to face during their academic journey.
