I try to make my sessions interesting and as relaxed as possible. There is no need to worry about making mistakes. Allowing my students to feel as comfortable as possible is very important to me - there is no judgement around here! As someone who struggled to speak up in class, and suffered from the anxiety of making mistakes, I like to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else. Rather than taking a very serious approach, I like to let my students do a lot of the talking when possible, as this is the best practice when learning any language. I like to use a mixture of grammar, language and culture in my sessions, as it covers the important aspects of the English Language. I have learnt through teaching English as a second language that keeping my sessions engaging is vital for retaining knowledge. I have taught Business English to adults for around 2 years and have found even with adults, that they require more than just textbook learning. Additionally, I like to go at the students pace. I do not rush them. I like them to understand something properly before moving onto another topic. However, I do like to test the ability of some students, as I feel their language level is usually a lot higher than they think. Encouragement and positivity goes a long way, and with my support, I hope that I can make a lasting difference in my students' ability, be it language related or overall confidence.
