In my 4 years of tutoring, I have learned that each student learns in their own way, and how to pinpoint the methods that work best for each student. When tutoring students, I always aim to provide a curriculum tailored to the specific learning needs and strengths of the student. I usually start with an emphasis on socratic learning, providing careful guidance to your reasoning both so that you have a stronger connection to what you are learning and to understand and attune to your modes of thinking. I will also spend some of the first session guaging your understanding and modes of thinking by providing you with some problems of various challenge levels to work with you through. This allows me to build lessons that take advantage of your specific modes of learning. For example, I have had students that benefitted greatly from more graphical explanations of ideas, and so whose content I tailored with a great emphasis on visualizing concepts. Meanwhile, other students have had much better experiences with complicated concepts like calculus when they have a firm grasp on the applications of the concepts and the purpose of the concepts we are building, and so whose curriculum focused much more heavily on that aspect of the learning. Overall, I want to work with you to make sure that you are engaging with your content in the way that helps you understand it the most, so all I need from you is a desire to learn.
