Learning the violin should be challenging, rewarding and above all, enjoyable. My approach to teaching is centred around understanding each student as an individual and helping them progress with confidence.
Every lesson is tailored to the student’s age, experience, ability and personal goals. Whether you are completely new to the violin, returning to it after many years, preparing for an examination, or looking to develop your playing to a more advanced level, I adapt my lessons to suit you.
Lessons can include technique, scales, études, repertoire, sight-reading and musical interpretation. However, I believe learning the violin should be about more than simply learning notes. I encourage students to understand the music they are playing, develop a good ear and learn how to practise effectively and independently.
For beginners, I focus on establishing a comfortable and natural technique from the start while keeping lessons engaging and encouraging. For more experienced players, we can explore technique, tone production, phrasing, musical expression and performance skills in greater depth.
I also enjoy preparing students for examinations and performances. My teaching style is patient, encouraging and structured, while allowing room for creativity and individuality.
Having spent many years both performing and teaching, I believe that good technique should serve the music, rather than get in its way. My aim is to help every student become a confident, expressive and independent musician while enjoying their journey with the violin.
