My lessons are carefully tailored around the needs of my tutees, specific to their examboard and tackling those areas of the subject they don't quite manage to fully grasp at school. I am a firm believer that learning is understanding, not memorising. The overall dynamic of my lessons is:

- Identifying the obstacle. What is it about this topic that is hard for you, and how does this affect your academic performance regarding other areas of the subject?

- Simplifying the problem. Is it because the concept is complex and hard to understand, or is the terminology daunting and difficult to remember?

- Tackling the issue. After we cover the concept and I am satisfied that you understand it, we will come up with a diagram together, or an acronym, or a mnemonic (these are great). The goal is to make this easy to remember!

- Applying the knowledge. By the end of the lesson, you should be able to talk me through what you have learnt! We can attempt past exam questions and exercises at this stage, which I find particularly helpful.

At the end of the day, a topic is as easy as you are interested in it. Often, we dislike subjects we are not so good at or we fail to see the relevance of. Biology is absolutely fascinating, and when you grasp the basis - which is what we will do in my lessons - everything starts to click and your academic performance just skyrockets!
