I've taught English to adults since 1998. I hold the Cambridge DELTA, a Level 6 postgraduate qualification in teaching English to adults, and for 13 years I managed the academic English programme for international students at a Russell Group university.

My lessons start with you. In our first session, I'll find out what you need English for, what you find difficult and what you'd like to achieve. I'll then plan lessons around those goals rather than following a fixed coursebook.

For general English, lessons focus on the areas that make the biggest difference to you. That could be speaking more fluently and confidently, understanding native speakers, building vocabulary, or using grammar accurately. Lessons are practical and based on real situations, such as work meetings, conversations or everyday tasks.

For academic English, I specialise in helping students succeed on UK degree courses. I can help you move from descriptive to analytical writing, which is often the difference between an average and a good mark. I can also help you structure essays, use sources effectively, and prepare for seminars and presentations. Wherever possible, we work on your real assignments, so everything you learn is useful straight away.

I adapt my teaching methods to each lesson. Sometimes I'll check what you already know before deciding what to teach. At other times, I'll help you notice language patterns for yourself, or we'll work directly on a task you need to complete. You'll always get clear, specific feedback you can act on.

Lessons take place online by video call, using shared documents and screen sharing so we can work on your writing together in real time. I'm patient, friendly and well organised, and I want every lesson to feel worthwhile.
