Focussing on close reading or material for course work, my lessons look closely at the material (book, poem etc) given for the essay/task and break it down. This is done best through attention to the piece directly through visual stimulus, colour coding of themes and other useful techniques that can be applied in exam situations.
For essay writing I am comfortable with both handwritten and typed format, open to looking at drafts and giving guidance and improvement pointers. In essay planning I also take a visual approach that refines the basic techniques that can then be applied to all subject areas such as science and social science, allowing for a more generalised framework with the ability to refine. Flashcards of quotes and colour coding of key texts in this instance are linked with essay writing as they allow the student more freedom.
Further to this, I am open to the use of powerpoint if preferred. Where I find a more direct approach works, it is what is most comfortable for students that I will go with. I am also familiar with Mentimeter, which creates more interactive powerpoints and question formats for a more collective lesson.
I also use the aid of flashcards in creating prompts for study material, these can be applied in exam situations or fro general recall in essay writing.
For more general lessons such as helping with personal statements, I tend to use mindmaps and flowcharts as useful ways to get information down in a tiered format, creating a framework for statement writing.
