• Understand the difference between visual art and graphic design
• Apply core design principles (contrast, alignment, balance, hierarchy)
• Navigate design software (Canva or Adobe Photoshop)
• Create a simple flyer, banner, or social media post
• Recognise design’s role in branding and communication
Structure:
• Welcome & Icebreaker (10 min): Share your favourite logo and why
• Presentation (15 min): Visual Art vs Graphic Design – key differences and use in business
• Design Principles (20 min): Breakdown of CRAP (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity)
• Live Demo (20 min): Creating a basic design on Canva or Photoshop
• Solo Task (15 min): Learners create a design with tutor guidance
• Feedback (10 min): Share work and receive tutor comments
• Wrap-Up (5 min): Recap and assign optional mini-project: “Design a poster for an event”
