I've been teaching English online for over a year, working with students from KS2 through to KS3, as well as GCSE English for higher education students. I also tutor Business Studies at GCSE and A Level for those looking for extra support in that subject.
Every student is different, so I keep things simple and structured, making it easy to know exactly what to expect from lesson to lesson:
1. Review – We start by going over homework from the previous week, so I can check understanding and clear up any gaps before moving forward.
2. Context & key texts – We cover the key texts and topics relevant to the student's course, building a solid understanding of the content itself.
3. Skills focus – We work on core reading and writing skills, adapting the focus depending on what the student needs most at that stage.
4. Exam practice – For GCSE students, we go through exam-style questions and run mock exam practice, so students build confidence with technique and timing under realistic conditions.
5. Homework & progress report – Each lesson ends with homework to reinforce what's been covered, plus a weekly progress report so parents and students can clearly see how things are developing and what's coming next.
Lessons run weekly and last an hour, with a flexible schedule that fits around school commitments and other activities. I keep my teaching style patient, encouraging and interactive, so students feel comfortable asking questions and aren't afraid to make mistakes, since that's often where the real learning happens.
Whether a student needs help keeping up in class, is working towards specific exam goals, or simply wants a stronger relationship with English as a subject, my aim is steady, measurable progress every week.
