What Are My Lessons Like?

My music lessons are supportive, creative spaces where students feel seen, heard, and encouraged to grow, not just musically but personally. With over 21 years of teaching experience and advanced academic qualifications (MMus, PhD pending), I offer a unique blend of structure, flexibility, and emotional insight.

Each lesson is tailored to the individual. Whether we are working on ukulele, piano, recorder, songwriting, or music theory, I adapt my approach to suit the student’s learning style, confidence, and goals. Some students thrive with play-based exploration, others with a more formal structure. Many enjoy a balance of both.

We focus on building strong foundations while also nurturing expression. For younger learners, I use fun, engaging methods to introduce rhythm, pitch, and musical language. For older or more advanced students, we might explore songwriting, analysis, improvisation, or preparation for music exams, university portfolios, or live performance.

Because I am also a trained teacher and CRB-checked, I bring a professional awareness of safeguarding and pedagogy. But more importantly, I care deeply about creating a calm, non-judgmental space where music becomes a form of connection, empowerment, and discovery.

Many of my students come to lessons feeling unsure or self-critical. Together, we build confidence through small, meaningful wins. Above all, my aim is that students leave each session feeling energised, proud, and more in tune with their creative voice.
