I have 4 years of experience as both a Teaching Assistant and a Cover supervisor in secondary schools. I support students age 11 to 19 with varying academic capability with their core subjects to allow them to succeed in their academic goals big or small. My philosophy is that all students deserve the opportunity to thrive in the education not just endure it.

I adapt my teaching styles based on the how my students best process information e.g. some may require flashcards other may learn better using videos/images/mindmaps that help explain concepts. It's therefore important to me to be patient in the classroom, and make a genuine effort to understand how my students learn best. I enjoy making use of whiteboards and of videos to allow students to grasps concepts and I enjoy making learning interactive. I aim always to inspire students not just to memorize content but really understand so that they can apply their learning confidently.

I also think it's key for students to develop critical reasoning so I encourage asking thoughtful questions and debating concepts - this will empower them to be great speakers and critical thinkers as they grow.

One area of note to me is exams because I know this brings up a lot of anxiety for certain students, therefore I also endeavour to teach students exam preparation processes that can help them, and techniques for managing anxiety. This is so that their test/exam results can resemble their efforts as closely as possible.
