How My Tutoring Sessions Work:
I structure my lessons to be interactive, engaging, and tailored to your child’s needs, whether they are in primary school or studying for GCSE edexcel Maths. Every session follows a clear plan to ensure learning is effective while keeping it fun and manageable:
For Primary Maths & English (ages 4–11):
- Warm-Up (5–10 min): We start with a short activity to get the brain working, like mental maths games, number bonds, spelling quizzes, or reading exercises.
- New Concept (10–15 min): I introduce the topic clearly, using visuals, diagrams, or story mapping. I check understanding with questions and make it interactive, students can even write or draw on the screen if tutoring online.
- Guided Practice (15–20 min): We work through examples together step by step. I encourage students to try alongside me, giving gentle corrections and praise to build confidence.
- Independent Practice (10–15 min): Students try exercises on their own while I monitor, provide hints, and annotate mistakes live.
Review & Feedback (5–10 min): We go over any errors, summarize key points, celebrate achievements, and set mini targets for the next lesson. Optional challenges like puzzles or story tasks can be added if time allows.
For GCSE Maths (Foundation & Higher Tier):
Warm-Up (5–10 min): Quick mental arithmetic, recall of formulas, or a few short past-paper questions to get students thinking.
New Topic / Concept (10–15 min): I break the topic into small, logical steps, using diagrams, graphs, or equations on my laptop and stylus. Students explain their reasoning to ensure understanding.
Guided Practice (15–20 min): We solve example problems together, gradually increasing difficulty and discussing methods to develop problem-solving skills.
Independent Practice (10–15 min): Students work on past-paper or worksheet questions independently while I monitor and annotate feedback.
Review & Feedback (5–10 min): We correct misconceptions, summarize key points, and discuss exam technique tips. Optional extension problems are included for faster learners or Higher Tier students.
Extra Benefits:
- All lessons are interactive using my laptop and stylus, making concepts visual and easy to follow.
- I keep a clear lesson structure, so students know what to expect and can build confidence step by step.
- Key examples are recorded or screenshotted for students to review later.
- Lessons are adapted to each child’s pace and learning style, including support for children with SEN.
