Hi, my name is Naren, I’m 21 years old, and I’m currently in my 3rd year studying BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering with Space Systems and I'm still deciding whether to go on for a masters or go into the workplace. My degree is heavily focused on mathematics, physics, programming as well as problem solving, so that's why I tutor maths and science, mainly for GCSE and 11+.

In terms of teaching experience, I started tutoring when I was 16 during my A-levels, working at Explore Learning, where I taught kids in groups of 6 from the ages of 6-15 for around a year. During that time I helped students prepare for 11+ entrance exams as well as other school assessments. I’ve also been involved in educational outreach programmes, including work connected with The Royal Institution, helping introduce students to maths and science concepts.

While working at Explore Learning, I also worked with students with special educational needs, particularly students with autism, and I received really positive feedback from parents saying their children enjoyed the sessions and were excited to come back to my classes.

What I love about teaching is that tutoring actually helped me when I was younger as well. At the time I used to think tutoring was just extra work after school, but when my grades started improving I realised how powerful it was to have someone explain things in a different way. That experience is what made me want to help other students, and I really enjoy the moment when something finally clicks for them.

My teaching approach focuses on building strong foundations and understanding the logic behind problems, rather than just memorising methods. I usually start by explaining the concept in a simple way, then we work through examples together, and finally I get the student to try similar questions independently so they can build confidence. I also adapt my approach depending on the student, because some students learn better visually while others prefer step-by-step practice.

Outside of tutoring, I’m really interested in engineering and motorsport. I’m currently part of a leadership programme connected with Aston Martin F1 Team, where I’ve had the opportunity to visit the campus and be mentored by people working in Formula One. I’m also a keen cyclist, and I enjoy racing and training, which is something that helps me connect with students who are interested in sport as well.
