Nam Baythoon

I'm a friendly, experienced and outgoing teacher, who has a good track record of engaging students in the online environment. I have worked with students across all levels at Functional Skills, GCSE and A-level, at good and outstanding local schools in South Manchester, and am an ex-head of maths at a local college. I have tutored students over a short period of time in preparation for their exams and also over a number of years to help with the content and stretch there knowledge from their maths lessons. As well as helping students with the subject content, I am also passionate about helping students increase their confidence levels in each topic across the curriculum.

At the start of the tutoring programme, I use diagnostic questioning and evaluations to determine misconceptions and/or gaps in knowledge and work with the student to develop their understanding and to help improve fluency in their mathematical thinking skills. I use visual aids, diagrams and online maths applications to scaffold content wherever possible and break down topics in to manageable steps. I also excel in developing higher order thinking skills, through the use of extension work and effective questioning.

Each session is 50 minutes long with students and parents/carers receiving annotated notes via email along with independent homework to be completed, then reviewed at the start of each session. This has been a very effective method in helping students gradually improve and build confidence in their maths skills.
