Through my connect scheme in my college I have obtained an extremely valuable amount of experience teaching KS3 and KS4 maths. Through this experience I have learned that the current method of teaching, although not completely obsolete, is not as effective for all students as it is made out to be. Instead of reading from a text book I believe a teaching form with more variety is required. Using a wider range of teaching methods helps to reinforce ideas inside a students mind leading to a more effective and beneficial use of learning time. Alongside 1:1 sessions, homework can be provided every 2 weeks. This can range from doing questions on a topic to watching a video that can explain a topic and provide examples to the student. Effective numerical skills is one of the most important skills a student can gain as it opens them up to a vast array of careers in areas such as finance, engineering and computer science which are all thriving and high paying career paths. On average someone who has achieved a grade 7 (A) in mathematics GCSE will earn £30,000 more per year in their career than a student who received a grade 4 (C). Lessons will be online so that the student can learn from the comfort of their own home and so that I can share my screen with them if needed. This is primarily done via zoom or google meet. Outside of lessons student can message or email me for any queries that they may have.
