My lessons are structured, clear, and focused on helping students properly understand the topic rather than just memorising methods.
I usually start by identifying what the student is struggling with, then break the topic down step by step using simple explanations and worked examples. Once the student understands the method, we move on to guided practice and then exam-style questions to build confidence and improve problem-solving.
A typical lesson includes:
* A quick recap of previous learning * Clear explanation of the topic * Step-by-step worked examples * Practice questions with support * Exam-style questions where appropriate * Feedback and areas to improve before the next lesson
I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, even if they feel they are “stuck” or behind. I focus heavily on confidence, exam technique, and helping students understand why each step works.
My background is in Chemical Engineering, and I currently work as a Process Safety Engineer. I also completed a five-year Plant/Process Engineering degree apprenticeship with the Environment Agency. This means I use maths in real engineering and problem-solving situations, so I can explain topics in a practical and logical way.
I tutor online using screen sharing, digital notes, and worked examples, making lessons interactive and easy to follow. My goal is to help students improve both their understanding and their confidence in maths.
