Hi, my name is Aayan! In my tutoring lessons, for maths at primary or GCSE level, I like to keep things simple and structured so students can really understand each topic. I follow a three-step method: show it, teach it, practice it.
First, I always give an example of where the topic is used in real life. For GCSE students, this might be using equations to work out costs or percentages in a sale. For younger students, it could be something fun and familiar, like sharing sweets or measuring ingredients in a recipe. This helps them understand the context and background of topics, as this is needed in exam questions later in their math journey.
Next, I explain how it works. I break it down into small, clear steps and use diagrams, colours number lines and visual aids. My explanations are engaging and I always encourage questions.
After that, we move on to practice. We do a few questions together so they get the hang of it, then they try some on their own. I pick questions that start easy and get slightly harder, building their confidence. When they make a mistake, together we will revisit key points and look deeper into why. Making mistakes is how we learn.
This way, students don’t just memorise methods—they actually understand them. Over time, they go from “I don’t get this” to “I can do this!” and that’s what I aim for in every lesson.
