About me

SHORT BIO: I hold a PhD in Psychology, and one of the main reasons I pursued this degree was my love for teaching. I believe learning should go beyond grades and outcomes—it should spark curiosity and genuine understanding. I enjoy meeting different students and tailoring my approach to their unique needs, making lessons both engaging and effective.

LONG BIO: I hold a PhD in Psychology, and one of the biggest reasons I pursued this path was simply because I love teaching. Working with students, helping them understand something new, build confidence, and actually enjoy learning, has always been the most rewarding part of my work. My lessons are very student-centred. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all method, so I always adapt my approach to each learner’s needs, pace, and goals. Whether I’m teaching Psychology, English speaking/writing, or helping with study skills for neurodivergent individuals, I like to create a relaxed, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I want learning to feel like something we do together, not something they face alone.
In terms of format, my lessons usually mix explanation, discussion, and active practice. I often use real-life examples, visuals, and simple step-by-step strategies to help students understand more complex ideas. For writing support, we might work through a paragraph or essay together; for speaking practice, we build confidence through guided conversation around topics the student enjoys. I also use thorough check-ins, skill-building exercises, and practical activities to keep sessions engaging and interactive, all especially important for online learning.
My teaching experience comes from over 10 years of roles across Penn State University and Montana State University, where I taught English, research methods, introductory psychology, and statistics; led exam prep sessions; delivered guest lectures; and supported large groups as well as one-to-one learners. I’ve worked with many international, neurodivergent, and non-traditional students, and I’ve also spent several years as a tutor and executive-functioning coach.
Above all, my goal is to help students feel supported, capable, and genuinely interested in what they’re learning. I want them to walk away not just with better grades or stronger skills, but with real confidence in themselves.

In a word Miglena is the definition of EXCELLENCE. She has tutored both of my daughters for an extended period of time. She has worked with them on both subject matter and executive functioning skills. Under her tuition they have both blosommed. I can't recommend her highly enough.
