Mie Peverett

Hello! I am a native Japanese speaker with a passion for teaching Japanese language and culture. I have experience teaching learners of different ages and abilities, including private students, university students and children in a community language school. My aim is to make learning Japanese enjoyable, practical and rewarding.

Since September 2023, I have been working as a private Japanese tutor, providing personalised online lessons tailored to each student's level, interests and goals. Whether you are a complete beginner, want to improve your conversational Japanese, prepare for a trip to Japan, develop your reading and writing skills, or work towards the JLPT, I will help you make steady progress at a comfortable pace.

My lessons are interactive and supportive. I encourage students to ask questions, practise speaking and learn from their mistakes in a relaxed environment. Depending on your needs, we can focus on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, everyday expressions, reading, writing or Japanese culture and customs. I adapt my teaching style and materials to suit your learning preferences, so that you can build both your knowledge and confidence.

I also have experience teaching beginner-level Japanese at the University of Sussex, where all my students achieved Grade 5 or above in their examinations. In addition, I volunteered as a Japanese teacher at Brighton and Hove Japanese Club for 12 years and served as Chair from 2023 to August 2026. These experiences have helped me develop a patient, flexible and encouraging approach to teaching.

I am fluent in English, so I can explain Japanese grammar and cultural differences clearly to English-speaking learners. Whether you are learning Japanese for study, work, travel or personal interest, I would be delighted to support you on your learning journey.

Let's enjoy learning Japanese together!
