Within lessons, a particular skill is focused on, exercises are given to help overcome difficulties and you will be given the opportunity to play along with Michael at a suitable speed to ensure that confidence grows. He helps prepare notes for younger students and communicates with adults what their specific practice needs are for the week in order to improve. Michael focus' on recapitulation each lesson so that the learning curve remains steady and encourages daily practice. Scales and arpeggios as well as sight reading and learning by ear are all strongly encouraged. How often should you practice depends on your ability level and Michael provides you with a weekly timetable plan in order to help you remain focused and organised. Bring along any questions that you have and be ready to grow and develop on your musical journey.
For beginners/ return students:
A plan is made in order to ensure that you have all the right equipment with you, for example: your instrument will need to be tuned up and you will need to learn how to tune if this is something that is brand new to you; you will need to ensure that your instrument is in good working order; you will be given information about what stationary and books are needed to complete your course.
If you are already improving (beyond beginner) or a competent player:
Looking into the right violin/piano make will be brought to your attention. You will be encouraged to create your own learning journal summarising the lesson you have taken and helping with recall of skills during practice sessions. Bring along any books that you have already been working on so that we can begin focusing on where your current skills are specifically placed and the direction that we will need to work towards.
