I have been tutoring English for some time now, I have got an A in English Language and Literature at A-Level. My lessons are structured in the following way: I always introduce the topic in the first lesson and what will be covered in the following weeks, and also what the learning objectives are and how they will be met; I then start to cover the content such as novels, poems, plays etc; I then set my student tasks such as fill in the blanks, practice questions, and general knowledge questions about what we have covered. At the end of each lesson I ask my students what they have learned and what they have struggled with, this helps me understand what my pupils have learned and where they need additional support. I make sure that my lessons are fun and engaging by asking questions throughout lessons and giving fun tasks that promote better learning such as quizzes. I ensure that my learning space is a calm and friendly atmosphere where my pupils can feel safe and able to learn. I will also give feedback on the pupils performance to parents/carers, such as what went well, where there is room for improvement, how can the pupil improve, and what I will do to make sure that they improve. I do also set homework as I believe that independent work is very beneficial, and I do like to keep in close contact with my students’ parents/carers to keep up-to-date with how the pupil is progressing.
