About me

I am very passionate about languages and have been teaching German for over 10 years.

I have a Master's degree in Transcultural Studies and, in addition, completed a Diploma in Teaching German. I am very passionate about languages and have been teaching German for over 10 years.

I have a Master's degree in Transcultural Studies and, in addition, completed a Diploma in Teaching German. During my studies, I worked at the Foreign Language Centre at the University of Bremen and at the Carl Duisburg Centrum, a school specialising in German as a foreign language. I supported students from a wide range of backgrounds in their learning process.

Since then, I have been teaching German privately as well as in schools and language institutes in Germany, Australia and England. I have experience teaching students of all ages and levels, from young children and school students to adults. I have taught students preparing for school exams, including GCSE and A-level German, as well as students learning German for personal, academic or professional reasons.

I am teaching German both individually and in small groups, adapting my lessons to the individual needs, goals and learning styles of my students.

I love working with students and language learners and enjoy helping them build confidence in German. For me, it is important that lessons are both effective and enjoyable, so I always tailor my classes to each student’s individual needs, goals and interests.

Whether you are just starting to learn German, want to improve your general communication skills, need support with grammar, vocabulary, speaking or writing, or are preparing for GCSE or A-level German, I can adapt our lessons to focus on what you need most.

I teach online. My online lessons are relaxed, interactive and personalised, and online teaching has worked very well for my students of all ages.

My wife and I wanted to really learn German beyond the web courses and books. We found Marlene and have been with her for over two years now, and we've both seen so much progress over that time. A huge bonus of having Marlene as a tutor is learning about the cultural side of Germany and the little things they say or do that aren't in any textbook. It gives much more context to what we're learning and has been fascinating! I can't say enough good things about her and her tutoring.

Without a doubt Marlene has improved my German; both my vocabulary and more importantly the grammar. My confidence in speaking German has increased enormously. She is a very patient teacher (I am sure she has told me the same thing 1000 times and still I get it wrong, and she never expresses frustration or impatience) and she pitches each class to address specific areas needing improvement. Via Zoom, we work through a text book, do exercises, watch videos and listen to the spoken word. Every week I also do homework, often suggest grammatical exercises to boost my understanding, the results of which we work through together which improves my vocab and grammar. The Zoom lessons are great. I don't feel like I am missing out not having face-to-face contact, the lessons are conducted as if we were sitting together and I don't need to travel anywhere for the class. I have no hesitation in recommending Marlene, regardless of your level, expertise or confidence.
