I’m Maria João Alexandre, a native Portuguese speaker and former business journalist. As a Portuguese tutor, I help professionals communicate confidently in European Portuguese, focusing on business speaking and writing. From meetings and presentations to emails and reports, my lessons help you express your ideas clearly and naturally.


I also help you understand how Portuguese people speak in everyday professional situations, including idiomatic expressions, subtle meanings and cultural nuances, so you can follow conversations and feel at ease in Portugal’s corporate environment.

To develop fluency, we combine guided conversation, focused listening and practical writing. I help you notice how native speakers connect words, use idiomatic expressions, and communicate meanings that aren't always obvious from a literal translation.

You receive constructive feedback on pronunciation, grammar and phrasing, with opportunities to practise improved versions until they feel natural. We also explore different ways to express the same idea, helping you become more flexible and spontaneous.

My aim is to help you speak with confidence, understand authentic Portuguese more easily and participate comfortably in professional conversations, while developing your own clear, natural voice in Portuguese through regular practice and feedback.
