Depending on the level of study, lessons can be either structured by me or led by the pupil. If the structured option is preferred, we will focus on developing your musicianship skills in theory, historical musicology (analysing pieces in relation to the time they were composed, along with their sociopolitical implications), and practice. We may also explore performance practice—how to rehearse a piece of music—delving into the psychology of practising both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble.

If you require tutoring to support your GCSE or A-level (GCE) syllabus, please specify the exam board so I can tailor the lessons to best suit both your needs and the requirements of the examiners. In terms of composition, I can offer advice on software such as Reaper, GarageBand, Sibelius, and Logic. I am also happy to listen to performances, as well as helping to analyse music. Each week however, at some point in the lesson we would share new music, from any genre, and give a brief synopsis of it, including origin, instruments and context.

I specialise in teaching brass instruments and basic keyboard skills. These lessons aim not only to educate but also to inspire independent exploration between sessions—even if that’s just listening to one piece of music. The pace and dynamic of each lesson will be guided by the pupil and should serve as a welcome break from the formality of school music classes, while still enhancing your musical skill set.

Music was once considered as essential as mathematics and science, and although it may be undervalued in today’s climate, by sharing in the learning of this subject through online lessons, we can begin to understand why music truly stands apart
