In my classes, I like to start by addressing what the concept we’re looking at is, whether it is a formula or a group of them. I then like to explain the method step by step by doing a question for them in order for students to fully grasp how to answer a question like the one I’m doing. After we go through one question together, I let them try some simple questions using said concept. If any students are unsure of how to do the work, I answer questions meaningfully and helpfully, making sure my students aren’t left in the dark. When I see that my students have grasped the concept, we look into more difficult questions so I can see in which area my students struggle in. My experience of teaching has come from helping classmates with their homework as well as doing a tutoring service for my Duke Of Endiburgh Bronze award. Many of my classmates and students found my tutoring helpful with all of my students getting a higher grade average than usual with a difference of up to 20% more than they would usually achieve. I used to struggle in maths, so I understand how important it is to fully engage everyone in a classroom and make sure that everyone understands what is going on before moving on, making sure no one is left behind or feeling “too dumb” for not getting a concept or formula straight away.
