I have extensive experience in academic research and writing and can adapt the pace, content and format of lessons to suit each student, whether you are working towards an exam, university assignment or simply want to learn more about art. For a beginner, we might work chronologically through key works and movements in the Western cannon, building an understanding of the major artists, movements and historical contexts while developing the skills to look closely and critically at artworks.

For students studying Art History at A-Level, I can work directly from the requirements of your syllabus, helping you build knowledge while developing stronger skills in visual analysis, essay writing and constructing an argument. For undergraduate students, I can adapt lessons to complement your particular degree, modules or areas of interest. This might involve discussing set readings and artworks, working through difficult concepts, preparing for essays or presentations, or developing research and academic writing skills.

I enjoy placing visual analysis at the centre of my lessons, while also using art as a starting point for exploring wider ideas and subjects. My own MA specialism was in American Art in the Age of Ecology, which allowed me to explore the connections between art, environmental history, politics, technology and culture. I think Art History is particularly exciting because it is inherently interdisciplinary, and I encourage students to follow those connections and develop their own interests.
