My math classes are well-organised, interesting, and completely customisable to the skill level and learning objectives of each student. To improve understanding and polish any gaps, I start each session with a brief recap of earlier content. This warm-up allows a stronger connection between subjects and boosts confidence. We then move into the lesson's main topic, where I present new ideas using detailed explanations, examples, and supervised exercises.
In my opinion, maths education needs to be an active process. I encourage students to question methods, think aloud, and explain their reasoning instead of giving lectures and spoon-feeding content. This actively develops understanding and allows me to evaluate their reasoning and offer criticism. The three components of a typical lesson would be explanation, practice, and reflection. I change the difficulty level during practice to keep myself motivated and guarantee consistent improvement. By identifying their strengths and areas for improvement, students can develop self-awareness and independence during the reflection phase. I offer online tutoring, so I would use interactive whiteboards, digital worksheets, and follow-up notes so students can continue practicing between sessions.
My background as a cadet has given me valuable teaching experience. I led small study sessions and helped younger cadets improve their analytical skills. Whilst I didn't directly teach them maths, they had transferable skills that would lead to unforgettable moments. That experience taught me the importance of clarity, patience, and encouragement - qualities I aim to bring to every lesson.
Ultimately, my goal is not only to raise grades, but to help students develop genuine confidence and enjoyment in maths.
