My lessons are structured, engaging and fully personalised — built on 20 years of professional Chinese teaching experience across universities and schools in China, South Korea and the UK. I hold a Master’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from Beijing Normal University, UK PGCE with QTS certification, Enhanced DBS check, plus Mandarin proficiency 1B, International Chinese Education Certification. I have taught learners aged 5 to adult, from absolute beginners to advanced levels, and specialise in total beginner course, HSK, YCT, GCSE, A-Level, business Chinese and heritage language support.

We usually begin with a short conversation and a review of what you learned last time. Then I introduce something new through clear explanations, useful examples and plenty of practice. Depending on your goals, we might use listening activities, everyday dialogues, role-plays, games or authentic materials. I’ll help you improve your pronunciation, build your vocabulary and understand grammar, with plenty of opportunities to speak Chinese yourself.

Your lessons will follow a clear plan, with room to slow down, revisit a topic or explore something that interests you. We can focus on everyday conversation, exam preparation, Chinese for work or heritage language learning. I balance listening, speaking, reading and writing around your priorities, and can bring Chinese culture and calligraphy into our lessons if you’d like.

I also have knowledge of special educational needs and experience supporting learners with visual or hearing impairments, autism, ADHD, dyslexia, colour vision differences and anxiety. I adapt materials, activities and lesson pace to each student, and work closely with parents to understand how their child learns best.

Mistakes are a natural part of learning. I’ll correct them gently, explain the patterns behind them and give you time to try again. Together, we’ll set achievable goals and check your progress regularly, so you can see your confidence grow.
