My lesson format will depend on what the student wants or needs to do. If they need me to work on a specific topic with them, we will do sessions based purely on that topic, where I will show my thought process whilst working through an example, then give them the opportunity to do the same, until they are confident in solving the style of question independently, then we will do practice questions, as repetition helps to reach consistency. Or if it's just a case of practicing a variety of topics, we can do past papers to improve approach to exam style questions, or multiple practice questions of different topics during one session. During my experience I found that, when I was learning, if I didn't understand what the question was asking me, I would struggle to complete it more, so some sessions can also be based around understanding the wording of questions and recognising where to apply the correct knowledge I also found it helpful to work through questions with a teacher, to understand the method, then once the method is mastered, you can apply it to every question. Revision-wise, especially as exams were close, I found completing past papers was the most useful, as a big part of doing well in Maths is the timing aspect, it is easy to spend too long on a question and run out of time so some sessions could be us working through a past paper, or looking together at a past paper that you completed and I marked before the session, to master timing and so we can see what topics need to be improved.
