I've been teaching and researching physics for over five years. I completed my PhD, where I worked on radiation detection materials, and then went on to work as an Assistant Professor. So I've spent a lot of time explaining physics to people who are seeing it for the first time, not just doing research in a lab.
My lessons are pretty relaxed and go at the student's pace. I usually start by figuring out where the gaps are, then work through problems together rather than just talking at someone. I like using diagrams and everyday examples to explain things, because physics makes a lot more sense once you can picture what's actually happening, rather than just memorising equations.
I teach GCSE, A-Level, and university-level physics, and I adjust how I explain things depending on what the student needs, whether that's building up the basics from scratch or getting exam-ready. I'm happy to slow down, repeat things a different way, or go over the same topic a few times if that's what it takes. There's no such thing as a silly question in my lessons.
I'm also about to start as a physics teacher trainee at Beacon School in Banstead from September 2026, so I'm keeping up to date with how physics is actually taught and assessed in schools right now.
